Air Traffic Controllers threaten strike
|
Jasper Kelly Friday 6 August 2010 |
The threatened strike by Spanish air traffic controllers, which is due to begin on August 18th has the capacity to strand thousands of passengers at the height of tourism season.
Unlike their French compatriots, Spanish air traffic controllers have avoided strike action in the past. They are generally very well paid but are objecting to changes in their working hours and guaranteed overtime pay. Now, where have we heard that before?
The strike has been brewing for a few weeks with the controllers taking actions including calling in sick. Matters seem to have come to a head when nearly a quarter of controllers failed to turn up for work.
Sadly, many British visitors to Spain will find themselves in the firing line again.

I think it is terrible that the general public are directly hit with regard to this situation. Many families save all year just to take a well deserved break once a year, it is just not fair.

What is the betting that this threatened strike will then be followed by anothe? We have already seen that our 'British' Unite union is in talks with their brothers in other countries. They will just bring more misery to us all.
