Cars go up in flames believed to be started by electrical fault

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service were called in the early hours of Sunday morning to attend several cars that were alight in the long stay car park at Stansted Airport.
The fire affected vehicles belonging to holidaymakers and is thought to have been started by an electrical fault in one car, which then spread the fire to other vehicles. Following initial investigations, the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

A total of 24 vehicles were either damaged or destroyed in the incident in Zone C of long stay car park.
Stansted itself are helping those owners who have been affected by the fire with complimentary taxis for their onward journeys. They have also negotiated a 40% discount with one of the car rental companies for anyone wishing to hire a vehicle.
After speaking to one of the UK’s leading insurance companies, I learnt that cars insured comprehensively or third party fire and theft should be covered. They would not comment however, on this particular situation, and said it would be down to the individual’s insurance policy.

If my car is damaged, can I claim from the car parking firm?

This must be a nightmare. Returning from a trip is always difficult but to come back to this !! This is a great PR opportunity for Stanstead to shine. I wonder if they took full advantage or if they missed the point.
