EasyJet received a bronze award in the first edition of the Mumsnet Family Friendly Programme Awards in early November.

Mumsnet CEO and Co-founder Justine Roberts said: "Our Family Friendly awards mean companies can be loud and proud about their family friendly policies and credentials and parents can recognise the companies that are listening and improving. Companies big and small are realising that being Family Friendly isn't just an optional extra - it makes good business sense."

The site was created in early 2000s as a platform where "parents could swap advice about holidays, pushchairs and last night's TV."

Eleven years later the site gets nearly 4 million visits per month.

"EasyJet is passionate about making travel easy and affordable for our customers and, as a mother myself, I know travelling with a young family is not without its challenges.

"This award from Mumsnet is testament to the efforts our staff have made to date and we aim to continue to improve on this in the coming months," said easyJet's Head of Customer Experience Lisa Burger.

EasyJet has promised to introduce some measures to further enhance the travel experience of families. The proposed actions include boarding families in a timely way to ensure that they are able to sit together during the flight, and also holding regular focus groups to listen to feedback from families about its service.

However, the airline has been criticised in the past for not being supportive enough of families.

Last May a family was kicked off a plane and banned from flying because their baby was recovering from chickenpox, although he was no longer infectious.

The family of six was stopped after boarding their easyJet flight home to Manchester from Corfu. Cabin crew refused to let them fly because their five-month-old had a few scabs on his face after suffering from chickenpox during their week-long break.
