Why not relax, unwind and chill out at Gatwick's travel spa
|
Kayte Platts Tuesday 1 February 2011 |
Passengers flying through Gatwick's North Terminal this summer will be able to enjoy full-on pre-travel pampering in the new No.1 Traveller Lounge. With its travel spa, mini-cinema and games facilities, there will be something for everyone to enjoy ahead of their holiday or in-between business meetings.
For a £20 entry fee, passengers will be able to enjoy up to three hours of peace and comfort, watching a movie or chalking down a pool cue to pot a few balls or indulging in a range of relaxing and revitalising Spa treatments. Passengers can also take in the panoramic views of the runway while enjoying complimentary food and refreshments, newspapers, magazines, TV and Wi-Fi.
Passengers in the new No.1 Traveller lounge will be able to buy travel insurance, order foreign currency and even shop for duty free, all via the lounge hosts, and from the comfort of their seats.
The Spa facilities will include hairdressing, massage, manicures and showering facilities. Passengers with young families can relax whilst their children enjoy playtime in a designated play area. Business travellers can work on the move by taking advantage of private meeting rooms and high-end business-centre facilities.
Robin Longden, Gatwick Airport's Chief Commercial Officer said: "At Gatwick, we want our passengers to feel their holiday starts right here at the airport, long before they reach their chosen destination. Our £1 billion investment programme is geared towards making the passenger experience more pleasant and enjoyable - providing better, speedier check-in procedures, shorter security queues and delivering more modern, spacious departure areas. The new No.1 Traveller lounge in our North Terminal will complement the improvements."
Phil Cameron, Chief Executive of No.1 Traveller, said: "Our aim is to create the 'smartest address at the airport' offering services that passengers really want, at a great price. With the success of our South Terminal lounge, we are excited to be working with Gatwick's North Terminal, with an exciting range of services never seen before at a UK airport. We look forward to welcoming our first guests this summer."
The travel spa facility will be open to all passengers for the first time at Gatwick.

I really like the sound of this. So often you leave the house in disarray and it would be really good to have your hair and nails done just before you get on a plane.

Good idea, would keep my girlfriend from spending all the money we take on holiday in duty free!

This sort of facility has been a long time coming. As Felicity says, by the time I actually arrive at the airport I am in dire need of some chill time before I board the plane.

It all sounds like a good idea but I wonder how much it will really cost. A £20 entrance fee sounds reasonable, but I am sure that there are hidden extras!

I have often said to my friends when we go on our annual girly holiday that it would be great to treat ourselves to a mini spa before we set off. The travel spa sounds like a really good idea and would be perfect, as we all have to travel to Gatwick from various parts of the UK so it would be an ideal way to start our holiday.

Sounds fabulous, now I have just got to convince my husband to take me somewhere nice and pay the entrance fee, other than that bring it on!

Great idea, I always plan to have a manicure and hair cut before we go on holiday but as a working mum of 4 I am always so busy getting my husband and children organised I end up arriving at the airport looking as though I have been dragged through a bush backwards!

This sort of facility should have been introduced years ago. I often arrive at the airport so stressed out that by the time I actually get to my destination I am truly exhausted. Having some me time whilst my husband keeps the kids amused is something I will certainly be grateful for.

I am flying to Spain at the weekend and as I am working all week there will be no time for me to get my nails etc done before I go, so this type of facility is perfect as I can board the plane feeling pampered.

A Travel Spa sounds like a great idea, lets see if it really only costs £20. Far to often with these sort of facilities you pay an entrance fee and then once inside end up spending an arm and a leg!

I really like the idea of being able to have a few treatments before boarding a plane, especially if you have to endure the low cost airline, could control air rage too!
