Airports prepare for final Bank Holiday Exodus
|
Kayte Platts Thursday 26 August 2010 |
It is that time again, the final Bank Holiday of the year, and it would seem that many Airports are bracing themselves for a manic exodus to sunnier climates.
London Gatwick Airport is a point in case with an estimated half a million passengers flying from there between Thursday 26th August and Monday 30th August.
Stewart Wingate CEO at Gatwick Airport was quoted as saying “This year we have delivered excellent levels of customer service particularly in security, as passengers clear our security areas in less than five minutes over 95% of the time - we are committed to ensure this continues this weekend."
Let us hope they can deliver! It is no fun being involved in a ‘scrum’ lets face it and airports are one of those places when something goes wrong it is like the domino effect.
The hotspots seem to be Dalaman in Turkey, Malaga in Spain, Faro in Portugal, Palma de Mallorca in the Balearics and Alicante in Spain. These are the top five and are relatively short duration flights. The favorite long haul destination is Orlando Florida.
Well, wherever you are going this Bank Holiday, let us hope it is a good one and without those dreaded delays!

We are due to fly off over the weekend and the one thing I am not looking forward to is the stampede at the airport

They do need to do something to reduce the queues at security. I know itb has been written about here before but we have got to find a better way.
