Strike Chaos threatened again from BA

Holiday makers to face fresh strike action

It looks as if holiday makers are in for yet more challenging times and may face months of travel chaos after British Airways cabin crew voted for strikes that threaten to disrupt the Easter getaway and the royal wedding itself.

ba-strike2.jpgMilitants at the Unite union, which represents the majority of BA flight attendants, said the overwhelming vote to strike showed their 'determination' to continue the long-running dispute.

They have, for the time being, stopped short of naming dates, but the union must strike once within 28 days of yesterday's vote and has to give at least seven days' notice of any walkout.

As a result this puts the Easter break and the late May half term holiday at risk from action that could potentially run until mid-July.

This will of course affect potential tourism and visitors  flying in for the Royal wedding later next month. It comes at a time when a boost to our tourism industry is badly needed.

A warning came  from Unite general secretary  Len McCluskey  to airline passengers ' to not to go on holiday'

The union went on to say that 10,000 BA flight attendant members backed industrial action by 83 per cent of those who cast a vote - on a turnout of 72 per cent. However, the 5,811 who voted 'yes' represent fewer than half of BA's total 13,500 cabin crew, and six out of ten union members.

Just the mere threat of strike action creates uncertainty for thousands of travellers and is an important tactic aimed at hitting BA bookings in general.

i have booked a flight to london on april 26th, and another flight to mauritius from london on april 27th 2011. if there is a strike will there still be some flights? i have another option for BA to put me on a flight on Air France to Atlanta from Tampa , Atlanta to Paris and Paris to Mauritius. Ihad booked this flight since January. I really do hope that there would no strike.

Just what do these workers think they are going to gain? The union leaders are guilty of leading their members down the garden path into unemployment.

I really cannot understand the mentality of these people. BA is recovering from its problems and is making a profit. What is the first thing the airline does? - it pays a bonus to all of its staff.
Just how bad an employer can they be? If these staff do not like working there then they should exercise their personal right and work somewhere else.
