Spray Tanning before you go on holiday
|
Kayte Platts Wednesday 25 August 2010 |
There is a mortal fear amongst us Brits’ when going on holiday and exposing our lily-white skin for the first time on the beach.
It would seem that it is becoming increasingly more important to have that ‘pre-sunkissed look’ before our holiday, giving us the confidence to face the public on the beach. Men too are becoming more apprehensive in exposing their pre-holiday flesh, so the idea of a spray tan before you fly could become more appealing.
We are constantly reminded of the dangers of too much sun and the risk of Melanoma is ever present. London Gatwick Airport have come up with an interesting system by joining forces with St. Tropez and promoting a new initiative for a week last month which was titled ‘glow before you go’ and offering free spray tans to passengers before they travel off to warmer climates.
When questioned, 82% of people said they had never had a spray tan before. So, it would be interesting to see how well this went (something I intend to find out and will update you with later).
It is important to point out that a spray tan does not provide any protection against the harmful effects of UV rays. It is imperative that you still use the correct factor sun lotion to prevent burning.
Spray tans do take away the fear of getting undressed down to your swimwear for the first day of your holiday. Hopefully, you will not be so intent on getting that all important tan too fast and burning to a crisp.
Spray tanning before you fly could be the way forward and have many benefits, not only health ones, but confidence ones too!

Anything that stops people going to these sunbed places is a good move. My niece refuses to listen to her mother and I am scared that she will develop a cancer.

My husband used one of these spray places and it is still all over the bed clothes.

I think this is a great idea, and I would use this facility. I always run out of time when getting prepared for my holiday and it's the one thing I wish I had done by the time I reach my destination. Being able to tan in the airport and 'develop' whilst flying sounds fantastic to me!

If this is a trial, do we know if it will be available full time in the Autumn?

I would love to know if this is an initiative that is going to be run nationwide, I would be really keen to have a spray tan before I flew.

Anything that moves young girls away from tanning lamps and skin cancer has to be a good idea. The logic of using the 'spare' time that you have waiting at the airport has also to be good. I would like to see more of these services, rather than just shops, available at the airports

I am pleased to say i never have had a spray tan in my life! Personally i feel that getting a tan is one of the most important parts of holiday, your not ment to be tanned when you arrive!

Luckily I am quite olive skinned and so have never felt the need to have a spray tan. However when I travelled to Ibiza with a group of my friends last year 4 out of the 6 of us had had spray tans before travelling because they thought that they were to fair skinned to arrive at our destination without one. I think if this facility was to run it would be a great success.

Fortunately i am quite dark skinned so when I go on holiday i am not so self conscious about my tan. However my family and friends are because they are very light skinned and thought they would look out of place in a country full of darker people so they all have spray tans before we fly. I feel that a tanning facility at a airport would be used by many.
