The Health Kick

Why do we not have a healthier option when we fly?

Airline food is always a hot topic for discussion. It can be very disappointing when you get your 'tray' to discover it is filled with rather plastic contents, food that has no taste, bread rolls that you could bounce along the gangway. Is it not time the airlines came up with a healthier option all round?

health-kick.jpgAll the low cost Airlines offer food to purchase on board and we are encouraged to buy food in the Airport before we fly. Generally though these items are unhealthy.  One of the most popular buys on airlines currently, is a tube of Pringles. We all know that the calories are huge and the fat content even larger, but still we munch our way through the entire tube. There is something about holidays and unhealthy food that seem to go hand in hand.

I feel we should have the option of buying a healthier and appetizing option, a sort of 'picnic in the sky', a box with wraps maybe, along with fresh fruit and nuts and an orange juice for me, could be far more appealing than the lousy rubbery sandwiches on offer.

It is a real shame that even on long haul, the food is so limited, we all expect to be served the familiar chicken or beef option, the tasteless yogurt and bread roll for breakfast and the snack usually appears as a soggy pizza slice, it does not really inspire you to eat I feel. I am sure with a little more thought to the situation airlines could be more versatile with their food and take a healthier perspective.

My husband went to to airshow at Farnborough were they had the new Boeing jet. He said that will change air travel completely and we will then be able to enjoy the same range of services that you get on a cruise ship.

Perhaps then food will be part of the enjoyment rather than just an inconvenience.

I think that the 'healthy' option Kayte has come up with would be a popular choice. It will be suitable for everyone and it would come across as more appetising than the 'plastic' looking and tasting food you usually get on aircrafts.

I totally agree that the choice of food available is a joke. I always end up buying a fruit salad and salad at the airport and eating it on board. It is a bout time healthy options where introduced, it madness.
