The High Points of Positano

If it is romance you are looking for, then Positano may be the answer.

Lying an hour and a quarter from Naples nestles Positano. The drive along the mountainous and sometimes perilous route will take you past Pompeii and Mount Versuius. The views are probably the most breathtaking I have ever experienced.

positano02hh8.jpgIf you were to look at Positano from below, the buildings seem to have been stacked upon each other. It is quite fascinating, the delicate pastel shades intermingled between the rugged coastline. At night, the lights twinkle against the dark sapphire sea, which give a truly romantic essence to the whole place, nothing bad could happen in Positano surely?

In the mid-1950’s, Positano became a fashionable holiday destination rivalling its neighbouring island Capri for the rich and famous. Still, today, Positano offers world-class restaurants and ultra luxury hotels to attract the affluent visitor.

For me, Positano was wonderful, wondering through the intricate streets, dining ‘al fresco’ on dreamy Italian food.

The downside was the number of steps! Positano's location meant that all you did was climb everywhere you went.

In a way, this was part of its charm but meant that I nearly had to give up on my must-have heels to avoid doing myself eternal damage! In the end, though, we found a bus that toured the area! This was good after an evening of dining too well and dancing in the local club. It was especially good  after one of the most ferocious electrical storms that I have ever seen.

If it is romance and energetic-relaxation you are looking for, then Positano is one superb destination.

We went to Positano earlier in the year, it was so so beautiful, especially at night as Kayte describes, with all the lights, the steps although are horrendous.

Positano is very nice but is also very expensive.
My husband and I went there and were really shocked at the prices they charged.

This is a fantastic destination, and it really has both a magical and romantic feel about it. We visited Positano this summer and will definitely be going back.

Been there and loved it. I am not saying that God made Italy special but he/she does seem to have got the hang of it by the time Positano was made.
