A delight for dogs and dog owners
|

I never was much of a fan of holidays in the UK.
Then, some years ago, we had a dog.
A labrador is a life changing experience. Obviously, it makes travel more difficult but it does also open up a whole range of new experiences. Just taking Jack for a walk (or being taken by Jack for a walk) turned into an adventure. Getting him back into the car was a test of wills, he stood 10 feet away and looked me in the eyes as he pranced from side to side.
We decided to take Jack to Wales where he could have unlimited space and get very wet and dirty.
We were very fortunate in finding an hotel that actually encouraged (rather than tolerated) dogs and dog owners. Our hosts had sheep dogs of their own and seemed amused by my wife and I as 'new dog owners'. Looking back, we must have seemed so unbelievably naive.
That holiday, near Ammanford, became the first of many such trips to Wales plus similar visits to Scotland.
Jack is now eleven and slowing down a bit but he single-handedly introduced us to the pleasures of family holidays in our own country.

I agree, since we bought a chocolate Labrador we have gone on far more weekend breaks and holidays in England as a family. Having Jessie has bought us closer together as a family

My wife showed me this article and it brought a chuckle to our hearts and a tear to our eyes. Our labrador died a few years ago (at the ripe old age of twelve and a bit).
