Millions of Britons will flee abroad in search of warmer temperatures this Christmas and New Year

A White Christmas is quickly becoming an almost bygone conclusion. Britons who are fed up with sub zero temperatures and the possibility of the heaviest December snowfall for 30 years, are as a result, expected to head abroad for Christmas and the New Year, in search of some winter sunshine.

Tenerife_Travel.jpgPopular destinations including Tenerife, and Lanzorote are booming, according to an analysis of 29,000 UK bookings for Christmas and New Year getaways.

The general consensus is that the heavy snowfall had sparked a rise in bookings.

Spain is cutting prices on its holidays for a family of four by as much as £400.00 as the holiday industry suffers in the recession and the pound gains strength against the Euro.

This means a comeback for Spain, whose position as number one destination for Britons had been under threat with the emergence of Turkey and Egypt.

Even with the threat of shark attacks, bookings to the Egyptian resort of Sharm El Sheikh this Winter are also up nine per cent on the year.

However, long haul destinations have suffered due to the introduction of increased air taxes. Orlando bookings this Christmas have fallen by a massive eighteen per cent as a result.

I decided to book a last minute holiday to Spain with my family and we had a great time. The cost was I believe to be lower that if we had stayed at home in the UK. The amount we generally spend on food and gifts leading up to Christmas is ridiculous and having now done it once I will certainly being doing it again.
