Cross the Severn Bridge and let the traffic and your day-to-day worries melt away.

Despite their increasing popularity, long weekend breaks that involve airports can still be hard work.
For many of us, under-explored Britain still provides an alternative.
OK, you will need your Wellies rather than your sun-shades but, if you have children and perhaps a dog, then Wales offers an enthralling mixture of history, geography and culture that the whole family can enjoy.
If you have not been there in recent years, you will be surprised by the range of accommodation available for short-breaks. Hotels, guest houses and luxury bed and breakfast with offers that will astound you with both their quality and price competitiveness. For those living in the expensive South-east, Wales will seem remarkably low-cost and almost too good to be true, but there is more to Wales than just good value for money.
There was a recent TV advertisement about food from Wales. It is actually all true, cheese, oysters, home-made sausages, Welsh lamb and lots more. This is certainlyb a case of once eaten, you risk being hooked and destined to return.
Add in the Black Mountains of the south, the welcome in the valleys and the miles of coastline and you have truly magical destination.
Getting there by road has become easier. Considering that Wales is a lightly populated and sometimes forgotten Principality, it boasts a road network that most of us can only dream of.
Cross the Severn Bridge and the traffic together with most of your day-to-day worries will just melt away.

I have done holidays in Wales and Catriona is spot on in here comments. Air travel for the weekend get-away can be horrible. Stanstead used to be good and easy, now it too is overcrowded, slow and expensive. | |
