Union wins appeal

Is the BA strike now back on?

The Unite union has won its appeal against Monday's High Court injunction against their cabin-crew strike.

There is now a strong risk that the strike will be back on as from midnight tonight and that the remaining three five-day strikes will go ahead. British Airways have not yet commented on their reaction to the decisions by the three Appeal court judges.

Oh Dear - this is going to make the Union stronger and rule out any early solution. I do not see Willy Walsh backing down and so we are in for a summer of real discontent.

I wanted the union to lose and for the strike to be stopped but I have to admit that the grounds for the original decision were a bit skimpy. Of course they have to follow ballot rules but not providing details of just 11 spoiled ballots out of 9,000 odd is not really that significant.
I am very sad that the union has won the appeal but I think it was probably the right decision.

I am so sorry for BA passengers and for the loyal BA staff. Something is very wrong and the power battle between BA management and the Union is frightening in its intensity.
Neither side is going to back down and the government has shown itself to be unwilling to act decisively. I just do not know where we go from here but I fear that it signals the end for BA as an airline. I think the damage is just too deep.

So we are going to have a strike on Monday. Well done to the Court of Appeal - I bet they are not going have their travel plans messed up.
It is probably right that the injunction was a bit shaky (the spoiled ballot paper thing was not that important) but it did, at least, stop the strike. Why can the government not simply say that the strike is bad; bad for the company, bad for the employees and bad for the country.
