Iceland’s cold war
JackLong's comment 19 April 2010, 12:31PM

This is so sad coming after the BA strike and then at the end of the Easter holiday season. I do feel sorry for the families stuck in overseas airports. This is going to make air travel less attractive and probably more expensive in the future.

e-Borders cause more confusion

I think the "Why do we bother?" is about right. If we are not going to enforce these procedures, why did we spend £1 billion on a computer system. You can build three hospitals for that money.

I have used the Santander card for a while now and find that to be excellent.

Anger towards BA strike
JackLong's comment 12 May 2010, 12:57PM

I too am angry. This strike is not necessary and the damage that it will do to the economy and the public is totally out of step with any benefits being demanded by the cabin crew.
The reports that this is just about travel perks presumably cannot be true. But, even f they are only half true, it shows the level of duplicity and confusion that surounds this whole issue.

Why are airplane toilets so small?
JackLong's comment 12 May 2010, 01:16PM

This is a very interesting question and is obviously not something that can be laid directly at the door of the airlines. The CAA/FAA and other regulatory bodies must have approved the aircraft layouts and I assume that they are pretty much standard for all airlines.
I must admit that I have often wondered why the toilets are so small but quite what one does about this is far from obvious.

Paul Chambers airport tweet
JackLong's comment 26 May 2010, 11:26AM

We were all young once and all did silly things. I do have sympathy for people who fall foul of authority and jobs worths, but I have to accept that bombs and airports do not mix and this type of prank is over the limit. So, £1000 was about right. The 'hidden' punishment is that he is very unlikely to see America again.

IATA backs Walsh
JackLong's comment 10 June 2010, 09:01AM

Sadly, I think we are at a point where the strike will collapse. I say sadly because I would have preferred to see a negotiated settlement. We are now going to be left with some very disillusioned BA staff and this may lead to problems for the airline and the passengers.
As for the union chiefs, well they will go on to bigger and better things and put this failure behind them.

Bristol Airport expansion
JackLong's comment 10 June 2010, 09:08AM

I think regional airports are the future. I use Southampton from time to time and it is simply fantastic. Compare it with Gatwick or Heathrow and it is like chalk and cheese.

Overtime for the overrated?
JackLong's comment 2 July 2010, 06:17PM

I think that Stellios is bored.
He had this big push with his easy companies and then sold off easyjet. He probably does not have enough to do and so is now busying himself picking fights with people.

Rolls-Royce Trent 900

When Toyota had their problems and fell from iconic status, the whole of Japan felt the embarrassment and rallied behind the company.
Most people here do not seem to care.
We have one of the greatest companies in the world - would it not be a good idea to support it?

BA and Unite, peace at last
JackLong's comment 18 May 2011, 01:37PM

My wife works for BA and has been to some of the Unite meetings. She says that many of her colleagues feel bullied by the Union. She is pleased with anything extra that she gets but would not have wanted this fight herself.

Gatwick teams qualified in customer service excellence
JackLong's comment 18 May 2011, 01:39PM

My wife works out of Gatwick and she says that the improvements in the last year have been really noticeable.
