Can British Airways win?
MaryOliver's comment 15 April 2010, 01:04PM

This strike is just so unfair on us the public. There are people out of work and we have to put up with a protectionist spat between overly powerful union bosses and an employer. We can we all not get back to working and doing a good job for the public.

APD - curse or green blessing?

Taxes like this start off as a good idea, a bit like tax on cigarettes where NHS costs need to be offset. This tax might have been to offset environmental damage but that concept has been lost in the drive to find any and every source of tax income.

Airport security madness

I have the same problem. I was stopped and had the extra search. I do not think that I look like a terrorist but they were very nice and apologetic about it. I hate to use the phrase but I guess they were only doing their job.

The pitfalls of disabled travel
MaryOliver's comment 12 June 2010, 10:55AM

UK airports have a particular vehicle that they use for transporting the disabled person and their family between the main terminal area and the gate. It is driven along making a frequent beeping noise. This is obviously to warn people that the vehicle is coming (or perhaps that the driver is visually challenged).
Sadly, what the beeping noise does is to make everybody turn and look at its embarrassed passengers. I do wonder whether we could find a better solution.

Women's lib or plain damn rudeness
MaryOliver's comment 12 June 2010, 11:00AM

You are right Catriona. There are women who are just their own worst enemies. I too heard the Jeremy Vine broadcast and was disgusted by the extreme attitude of the so called columnist from the Guardian who seemed to hate all men.

Campaigning for disabled passengers
MaryOliver's comment 24 November 2010, 10:10AM

My sister is deaf and has had good and bad experiences. I know that Ryanair get and usually deserve a bad press. But one of their staff looked after my sister and did a job well above and beyond the cal of duty.
I wrote to the company and gave her name, so I hope that she got recognised for her efforts. It really only takes one staff member to make or break a reputation.

Aircraft and space restrictions for the disabled traveller
MaryOliver's comment 24 November 2010, 10:13AM

The young and fit do not really understand the difficulties of the elderly and disabled. Sadly, time brings this to all of us.
Please keep this issue live and try and bring the airlines into the debate.
